elder-nominations

In February, the elders received nominations from the congregation identifying people to undergo training to discern if they were called to be an elder in the church. The presiding elders approved two candidates… Brian Hubbard and Brian Marden. John Frain is currently an elder and has been nominated for a second term. A Congregational Meeting will be held between the services on June 22 to formally elect (or reelect) them to the office of elder. Get to know the elder candidates below.

John Frain

John was raised in Perry Hall, before attending college at the University of Richmond, studying accounting. He went on to complete his MBA at Loyola. For the past 20 years, John has worked for BGE in the regulatory department.

John and his wife Dana have been at HVC since 2010 with their three sons. Together they have served for years with all different ages in NextGen. Currently they are leading in Highway 45, as well as facilitating a core group. John loves to read, cheer for the Orioles, and enjoys neighborhood walks with Dana.

More than anything, John hopes that the people at HVC and in the broader Baltimore community, really grasp how wide and long, and high and deep is the love of Christ.

Brian Hubbard

Brian is a Baltimore native who attended Michigan State University and majored in marketing. Upon his return to Baltimore, Brian began his career in business. Currently he is a vice president and senior consultant with Kelly Benefits, where he has worked for almost 30 years.

Brian, his wife Juliet, and their two children started attending HVC in 2014. Brian serves as a host on Sunday mornings and has served on the fix-it team and on short-term missions. For the past five years, Brian has led a high school small group. Brian also volunteers with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is a fan of sports on all levels and enjoys boating and golfing.

Brian hopes for HVC, that we continue to seek to reach others in the community and that as a result, the congregation and Kingdom of God would grow.

Brian Marden

Brian grew up and still lives in Towson. He attended Towson University and worked for 41 years in the insurance industry. Brian spent the majority of his career at HMS Insurance Associates in Hunt Valley where he was a Vice President and Partner until retiring at the end of 2024.

Brian and his wife Colleen have two married children and three grandchildren. They have been attending HVC for the past 15 years and currently serve as greeters, communion servers, and mentoring young couples as part of the marriage ministry. Brian also leads a study focused on discipling young men in his neighborhood. Beyond church, Brian loves to cheer for the Baltimore sports teams, hike with his family (particularly in Maine) and spend time on the golf course.

As we approach this next season for HVC, Brian looks forward to seeing the congregation catch the vision of our mission statement and use their unique spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities to help expand God’s Kingdom here on earth.
